What is BCC?
BCC, which stands for blind carbon copy, allows you to hide recipients in email messages. Unlike addresses in the To: field or the CC: (carbon copy) field, addresses in the BCC: field cannot be seen by other users. Why would you want to use BCC? There are a few main reasons for using BCC: • Privacy – Sometimes it’s beneficial, even necessary, for you to let recipients know who else is receiving your email message. However, there may be instances when you want to send the same message to multiple recipients without letting them know who else is receiving the message. If you are sending email on behalf of a business or organization, it may be especially important to keep lists of clients, members, or associates confidential. You may also want to avoid listing an internal email address on a message being sent to external recipients. Our Mission In support of the mission of the Student Affairs Division and the University Center, the purpose of Base Camp Cullowhee (BCC) is to provide a comprehensive array of outdoor program services to the Western Carolina University community. Through outdoor recreation trips, outdoor equipment rental, and experiential education services, BCC provides experiences that foster student engagement, synthesis of knowledge and skills, community building, healthy recreation habits, and student retention. History The Outdoor Program at WCU was started in the mid 80’s by a few professional staff members who shared an interest in promoting outdoor programs to students on campus. There were several planned outdoor trips, including skiing in the Adirondacks, canoeing in Canada, and biking in Utah. In the late 80’s the university purchased some equipment including a fleet of Old Town canoes, which marked the beginning of the rental program here at WCU which operated out of a closet in the Unive
BCC is an abbreviation used in email, which means simply Blind Carbon Copy. A normal email address can have three classes of email recipients: the To recipients, the CC recipients, and the BCC recipients. The To recipients are thought of as the primary recipients of the email, the CC recipients are those who are receiving carbon copies of the email, and the BCC recipients are those who are receiving carbon copies of the email, but whose addresses no other recipients can see. The point of the BCC field in an email is to allow for a long list of interested parties to receive the email, but for their email addresses to remain hidden. The recipients listed in the To field are generally thought to be those who the message is actively addressed to, and so a message containing only To recipients has their email addresses exposed to one another, since it is assumed they are working on the same project, or are part of the same group.
