What is Army After Next (AAN)?

0

Army After Next was an effort, initiated at TRADOC in February 1996, to outline a far-future concept of warfighting. The AAN project sought to develop a credible concept document that was capable of gaining wide Army support for the 15-30-year period ahead. AAN activity was centered in the Future Battle Directorate of the Office of the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Doctrine. Support came from the Army Staff. Behind the effort was the notion that there was present in the oncoming technology the potential for a military-doctrinal “leap-ahead.” Testing and analysis would be provided by a series of wargames at the Center for Strategic Leadership at the Army War College. By the close of 1996, the AAN project had grown into a major program involving planners from all the armed services.
