What is an online course?
An online course utilizes the Internet and a web browser as a means of creating a learning environment outside of the traditional classroom. Lectures and discussions will take place on a Distance Learning Center Web site. You will be able to access your course lectures (for the most part, text based with some courses utilizing audio and video) and communicate with your classmates and instructors through the use of a discussion forum (message board). The online courses follow a classroom structure of covering a lesson a week. You can access your course Web site anytime of the day and anywhere you have access to the Internet (dependent on security settings).

Online paralegal courses also have a weekly chat time on a specific day and time set by the instructor for all students enrolled in the class to meet for a discussion topic.
An online course is similar to a traditional course. It is instructor-led where the instructor develops the curriculum, conducts the class, gives the assignments, answers questions, leads discussions, and assigns grades. Online courses are highly interactive with faculty and students communicating through e-mail, discussion forums, and chat groups. For most of the courses, you will be expected to begin the first week of class and work regularly throughout the semester.
To take an online course, you must have access to a computer at home or at work. You will log in to your class to receive course information, view course content, submit assignments, and have discussions with your instructor and fellow students. It is very important to remember the following points about online learning: • Online learning is flexible and convenient…but NOT EASIER! • You can expect to study a minimum of 6-9 hours each week for each online class you are taking. • Most online classes at PGCC are not self-paced. The instructor sets the deadlines for the course and students.
An online course is a course which is delivered entirely online meaning that there is no specific time in which you have to come to lecture. However, there are ON-CAMPUS TESTS for all math online course at ELAC. Even though you do not have to attend class at specific times, an online course is at least as time consuming as, and sometimes more time consuming than, a traditional class. You will have homework, tests, quizzes, midterms, and final exam just like you do if you take a traditional class. You can work on the material at times convenient to you. It is an “anytime, anywhere” class; but remember, it must be “sometimes, somewhere”. Since there is no class meeting times, your communication with me and other students will be done mostly online: through e-mail, telephone, and Discussion Forum.
