The LED display watch was the first type of digital watch, previously to this all watches were ‘analogue’ (having hands or mechanical clockwork parts) Digital watches with the LED display were invented towards the end of the 1960’s and introduced as a high end modern timepiece by the Hamilton watch company under the brand name “Pulsar” in 1973. When they were first available, LED watches were extremely expensive, from several hundred to thousands of dollars. They were made popular by appearances in moves such as James Bond’s “Live and Let Die” and grew in popularity after many companies in Asia began to introduce cheaper models, eventually causing the demise of the Pulsar brand until it was later introduced as a non-LED brand by Seiko.
