What is an inexpensive way of creating a vacuum…?
A portable soundproof room? I think that you’ll find if you use vacuum as sound insulation, the amount of structure that you need to prevent the cavity walls from caving in on themselves will render your room not portable. Think about it: if you have a 3m x 3m length of wall that you want to have a vacuum cavity within the construction, you’ll have 9m² of wall space on either side of that wall for the atmosphere to exert pressure on. To counteract that, you’ll need to beef up either “leaf” of your vacuum cavity wall to such an extent that the whole construction will become expensive. That’s not even mentioning the kind of workmanship you’ll need to ensure a vacuum tight seal at every junction. The best ways to reduce the transmission of sound into a room are: – by isolating the structure of the room from any source of vibrations (ie: by using dampers in the connections/fixings, floating floor construction, etc.) – by dampening with acoustic insulative materials (which becomes more effe
