What is an EBT?
EBT stands for Examination Before Trial. It is also known as a deposition. An EBT is where one of the spouse’s attorneys questions the other spouse under oath before a court reporter regarding finances of the parties’ marriage. The questions are limited to finances and cannot involve issues of custody of grounds for divorce. Every divorce case does not include an EBT. If the required financial documentation can be obtained by alternative, less costly or less invasive means, a deposition can be avoided.
