What is an Automatic Garage Door?
The term “automated garage door” simply refers to a “motorized garage door.” Such a door will open and close by a remote control and some installed switches. People will usually carry a remote control in their vehicle with them. Whenever they approach their garage they can press a button on a remote control that uses a radio frequency signal to tell the garage door to open. The benefit to this is that you don’t have to get out of your car to open and close your garage door.
An automatic garage door utilizes an electric motor that is attached to a metal track. A metal arm is then attached to the top of the garage door. It moves back and forth to open and close the garage door. There is also an emergency handle and rope that is attached to a trolley in case the garage door has to be opened in the case of an emergency. There is also a safety system in place to keep the door from closing if an object is in the way. This is a mandatory safety feature.
There are three types of drive systems available:
- Screw: This was the first type. It is easy to repair but very noisy.
- Belt: This system is silent but over time it can wear out and break.
- Chain: This combines the strength of a metal chain with a plastic belt drive to operate quietly and last for a long time.
