What is an appeal?
An appeal is a formal complaint to a PIHP about an action. Here are the steps in the appeal process: • To start an appeal, contact the PIHP that sent you the Notice of Action you wish to appeal. You must start the appeal within 20 days of receiving the Notice. • You may request assistance with your appeal from your PIHP’s Ombuds service. See the last section of this booklet for the telephone number of the Ombuds service in your PIHP. Interpreter and TTY/TTD services are available to help you, if needed. You may also receive help from your community mental health agency or anyone else you choose. • You may start an appeal with a phone call or a letter. If you choose to start with a phone call, you must also send a letter within 7 days unless you are requesting a fast appeal (also called an expedited appeal). Please include in your letter your name, how we can best contact you, the reason for your appeal, and any evidence you wish to submit. • You may request a fast appeal if you or your
Appeals arise from cases which have already been decided by the court of common pleas (including domestic relations, juvenile and probate court) as well as municipal courts, small claims courts, and the board of tax appeals. Appeals to the court of appeals may only arise from courts located within Cuyahoga County.
An appeal is a request to have an assignment that you do not feel received an appropriate mark remarked. You are entitled to appeal the grade on any assignment that you complete. • The first step is to discuss your assignment with the unit of study coordinator; that meeting should happen within twenty days of the assignment being available to you. • If you are not happy with that discussion, the next step is a formal appeal, which is lodged with the Faculty of Arts Office and overseen by the Dean. You should make that appeal within twenty days of your meeting with the unit coordinator. A formal appeal requires completing a form and a written statement outlining the reason for your appeal. You can find the form and further information here.
In the jurisdictions that allow appeals, the appeal process provides Uniform CPA Examination candidates with the opportunity to appeal failing scores. Where available, the appeal option enables candidates to view the test questions or simulation problems that they answered incorrectly together with their responses, and to submit comments online. The confidentiality of the examination requires that such viewing sessions take place only in authorized locations, under highly secure conditions, and in the presence of a representative of the candidate’s board of accountancy or its designee.
