What is ACCESS for ELLs?
ACCESS for ELLs is the yearly English Language Proficiency Assessment used by the State of Wisconsin. Federal and state laws require schools to assess the English language proficiency of English Language Learners (ELLs) every year in Kindergarten through grade 12. This assessment provides valuable information to parents and school staff about your child’s English language proficiency in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The assessment is mandatory for students who accept and decline ESL and Bilingual Education services. State law does not allow families to opt students out of this assessment. The results of this assessment are used to plan instruction to meet the individual academic needs of each student. You will receive a letter with your child’s results. Please contact your child’s school if you have any questions.
