What is a Telecourse?
Today’s telecourse consists of four important parts: a series of video lessons (typically one hour of programming per week); a comprehensive study guide; an academic textbook; and an on-campus instructor. You will also have an opportunity to meet with your instructor three to four times each semester for a two-hour session. You will stay in touch with your instructor through phone conferences, mail and may have the option of using computer conferencing.
• Material is viewed through the TV. Course material is shown at certain times of the day and week. • The instructor will have you come to the campus to take quizzes, tests, mid-term, and final. • Depending on the instructor, work can be turned in through email, postal mail, fax, or in person. • Contact instructor for more information. The section number of a Southwest Telecourse will consist of a “T”, such as T01, T02, T03. Example: Music Appreiciation – MUS 1030 T01 For more information about Teleocurses, please contact Ruby Wilburn: 901-333-5571 Or visit the Distance Education Website.
Telecourses are video-based courses delivered via videocassette tapes. Telecourses are complete and integrated instructional systems that generally include videotapes, a textbook, a study guide and other instructional materials. Student learn through reading the text and watching videotapes followed by completing learning activities and assignments according to the syllabus provided by the instructor. Course work can be completed asynchronously, meaning that the students can work through the course material at any time of day.
