What Is A Stickleback?
Stickleback, belonging to the Gasterosteidae family, is a small bony fish, primarily found in North America and northern Eurasia. The name came from their sharp and thick spinal structure found in the first dorsal fin. The male stickleback plays the most active role in mating as well as nesting behaviour. Initially they find the suitable place under water to make their nest. They build the nest by secreting the sticky fluid produced from their kidneys and then shape up the nest through body movement. In the mating phase, the male stickleback performs courtship dance in front of the female stickleback to impress her to join with him in the process. If this attempts fails, the male then chases the female fish to his nest where the female lays eggs. Then the male fish secrets his sperms over the eggs to fertilize them.
