What is a “smart” Battery?
Since a Smart Battery has a chip inside monitoring the condition of the battery (output voltage, temperature, etc) through the communication amongst applications such as a note book PC, battery capacity before the following charging needed can be transmitted to the note book PC; therefore, the usage of the application is more convenient.
A Smart Battery is one that has a microprocessor within it that collects vital information such as voltage, amperage, time before the battery needs charged, and so on. Must all laptops after the year 2000 have this installed in the batteries. However, on older model laptops, this may not be an option. Smart Batteries do not extend the life or running time of the battery, they simply gather the information mentioned above.
Smart batteries have internal circuit boards with smart chips which allow them to communicate with the notebook and monitor battery performance, output voltage and temperature. Smart batteries will generally run 15% longer due to their increased efficiency and also give the computer much more accurate “fuel gauge” capabilities to determine how much battery running time is left before the next recharge is required.
