“Sim” is an abbreviated term for “simulator” or a region in Second Life. Each region is 65,536 square Second Life meters, or approximately 16 acres. At one time each region was ran by one server or simulator, so the regions were called sims and each region has a unique name. Currently, two regions are operated by one server or simulator. Some residents of Second Life own an entire region, but most regions are divided into many small parcels of virtual land that are purchased or rented by avatars. Avatars have real life people operating them and providing financing of the virtual world.
