What is a service area?
A service area defines the geographic territory that is to be served by the improvements or facility expansions necessitated by new development. The NM Development Fees Act says service areas should be “designated based on sound planning and engineering principles”. The service area should be big enough to generate enough impact fees to actually pay for the growth related improvements needed. But the service area should be small enough so that it is rational to conclude that the new development that generated the fees actually enjoys the benefits of the improvements it paid for.
The cellular service area is the boundary in which a cellular telephone may be operated. As long as you are within the cellular service area, you may place or receive calls, even long distance calls within the United States and Canada. The No Service lamp will illuminate when you are out of the service area.
Services of service areas usually address one or several aspects of the overall program objective(s). It is at the service area level that most of the analysis will be undertaken. Services are made up of activities. An activity is an operation that alone or with other operations, is required to provide a service. Service areas (the units of analysis) have the following characteristics: • Have an identifiable customer (internal or external) • Provide identifiable service(s). • Have an assigned budget (significant) • Have more than $250,000 in wages attached • Have an identified manager tasked with planning service delivery Template 1: Template 1 describes each Department, including its mission; vision; description; objectives; and its unique circumstances (i.e.: key planning considerations, business demands, current initiatives, budget pressures, etc.
A Service Area is a geographic area in which several troops function together and form a support group. In rural areas, the Service Area usually consists of the town(s) or county. In urban areas, one or more schools may make up the Service Area. A service team works together to assure quality program for the girls in that area. Service Area meetings are a great way to meet other leaders in your area.
