What is a ringtone/realtone?
Around 1999 Nokia introduced a new feature for its mobile devices. Users may send and receive tones with their mobile devices and use them as a ringtone. A ringtone is a tone that you use when the phone rings. Ringtones started as monophonic tones in a proprietary format. Its great success was due to the simplicity of forwarding the content to friends and the desire of users, generally young people, of personalizing their mobile device. In the beginning the most common ringtones were tones derived from famous movies and TV shows such as James Bond and Mission Impossible. This was also due to the technical limitation, in fact ringtones were monophonic and had to be short. Soundtracks often sounded much better than Pop or Rock music. The first mobile phones also had a very limited set of notes that could be played. Soon content providers started selling ringtones. You would pay a small amount of money and receive an SMS on your mobile phone within a few seconds with your own ringtone. Op
