What is a “Reinstatement”?
A reinstatement, also known as a reassumption of liability, is a form that the bail agency issues to defendants that have missed court. It is a form that tells the courts that the bail agency will reassume the liability of the bail bond. The courts would then order the forfeiture vacated, (stop the 180 day count down), and allow the defendant to stay out of custody, on bail, and continue their court appearances. The court will usually charge the bail agency an assessment fee for accepting a reinstatement so bail agencies general charge a fee for reinstating a bail bond.
