What is a Progress File?
The idea of a Progress File emerged from the Dearing Report, 1997 . This recommended “that institutions of higher education, over the medium term, develop a Progress File. This file should consist of two elements: • A transcript recording student achievement which should follow a common format devised by institutions collectively through their representative bodies (for further details on Cardiff University transcripts see http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/4810) • A means by which students can monitor, build and reflect upon their personal development. Consultation across the sector resulted in the production of a policy statement by Universities UK, ScoP, Universities Scotland and the QAA in May 2000 and the Guidelines for HE Progress Files were produced in February 2001.
