What is a portal?
A “Portal site” is a customized entry or “point of entry” (hence “portal”) to the Grants Office UPstream database. Our portals offer an integrated and personalized web-based interface to Grants Office information. There are two options available with this feature. Organizations interested in this service can either choose from setting up a “password protected” environment and display the information on their own internal website. Or, contract with us to filter the information catering to the organization’s needs, parameters and limitations per their request.
A portal is a turbo-charged Web site. With more power and speed than a standard Web site, a portal gathers all the online applications you’re used to getting into one convenient URL. With a portal, you will have secure access to everything you need. Often portals integrate software applications into Web applications. Using MyUMUC, for example, you can search class-record databases online. Web technology is ever-evolving, so being a member of a portal community is indeed an exciting journey!
A portal is a type of web architecture that brings together information and services, specific to the person using the portal. CUConnect, the CU-Boulder campus portal, offers secure access to the information and services needed by members of the campus community. CUConnect is built upon the uPortal framework developed by JA-SIG (Java in Administration Special Interest Group).
