A GPS is a wondrous, new age device that helps direct us to destination points at the click of a button. GPS stands for “General Positioning System”. It does what the name indicates.
The basic operation of the GPS is like this:
- You enter information into your GPS.
- The information is sent to a satellite that is currently orbiting around Earth as we speak.
- The Satellite pinpoints the location.
- The satellite sends you specific instructions and directions on how to reach your location
Older GPS Models were placed on dashboards of a vehicle. Nowadays they are built into phones and other transportable electronics.
Electronics such as the iPhone can be equipped with modules such as the TomTom GPS. Many phones can come equipped with a GPS from the opening of the box. The GPS satellite system is completely owned and ran by the United States.
A GPS Phone is a regular mobile phone but with the ability to guide the user with a GPS application. A “GPS Phone” is not labeled as or referred to by anyone as a “GPS Phone”.
Due to the influx of these amazing new devices, I fear that the regular, non-Phone or Mobile electronic related GPS machines will be put out of business. Though, you must see, the newer phone attached GPS have a much better and easier to use User Interface. Instead of displaying text on when to turn or drive straight. Some of these newer GPS systems provide a 3D pointer to direct users on where to go!
