What is a galley?

A galley is the proof copy of the inside of the book. Traditionally, galleys are in printed form, but in today’s modern world, we have moved to electronic versions. The galley includes all pages that will be in the finished version of your book including any blank pages at the front and back of the book, but excluding the cover. It is formatted just as it will be in the printed version. The galley is designed on a standard 8.5” x 11” page with cut-lines to indicate where the paper will be trimmed at the printer according to your book size, whether it’s 8.25” x 11”, 6” x 9” or 5” x 8”.
