As the name suggests, a footswitch is any of a number of different types of switches operated by the feet. A footswitch can either work in a simple binary manner, with only an on and off setting, or it can work on an increasing scale. a footswitch has one or two, sometimes three buttons on it that switch the channels around on your amp instantly, you don’t have to walk over to it and hit switches, so you can keep playing while you switch channels with your feet. if you want to turn off all your pedalsi would try using a custom a/b box that can switch from your guitar going into the effect loop as opposed to straight into your amp. eric johnson does something similar.
