What is a FFL?
FFL is the abbreviation for a Federal Firearm License which is a U.S. Government issued license required of individuals or companies engaged in the business of selling firearms. FFL holders also provide the service of transferring firearms to individuals who may have bought the firearm elsewhere and had it shipped to their local FFL holder for transfer to them.
A “FFL” is a Federal Firearm License. There are over 55,000 FFL holders in America. FFL holders include gun stores, many pawn shops, and retail sporting goods stores and many individuals too. All firearms sold to individuals online must be shipped to a local FFL holder who will then transfer the firearm (via ATF form 4473 and associated background check) to the individual.
