What is a federation?
A federation is a system of government with two levels that share governing responsibility between a single national authority and several state (or regional) authorities. The national level of governance looks after national concerns such as currency, defence and taxation while the state level looks after state concerns such as the provision of health, road and education services. Although Australia is one nation it has nine parliaments including the federal Parliament in Canberra and one in each of the six states and the two mainland territories. This is because Australia is a federation. It also means that there are nine executive governments operating from within those parliaments. Other federations include Germany, Canada and the United States of America.
A federation is a group of voluntary charitable human health and welfare organizations established for purposes of supplying common fundraising, administrative, and management services to its members. Each federation is listed with its member organizations as the first organization. If you wish to designate all or some portion of your contribution to a federation, please record that federation’s corresponding code number on your pledge card. Contributions designated to a federation will be shared in accordance with the federation’s policy.
A Federation is a group of two or more schools with a formal written agreement to work together under a single governing body. The purpose is to raise standards, promote inclusion, find ways of teaching and learning and build links between schools in a coherent manner. This would involve structural changes in leadership and management. In practice this may involve sharing management and staffing expertise across a number of schools, to enhance the management efficiency and teaching capacity of their schools and so improve children’s learning experiences. Each school would retain its separate legal identity in respect of its budget, name, admissions and performance but the staffing and resources of all the schools within the federations would be governed by a single governing body. In view of the level of detail required we have produced an additional document covering frequently asked questions for federations.
A federation is the heart and soul of North American Jewry’s philanthropic and humanitarian activities. It embodies a 3,500-year-old tradition of caring that goes back to the giving of the Torah and sustains us in the bold pursuit of Jewish community, Jewish values, and Jewish peoplehood. Locally, United Jewish Communities (UJC) of MetroWest NJ is the people who care enough to want to perfect an imperfect world. Federation is the passion of commitment, where tzedakah and a sense of social justice can make a difference in someone’s life.
