What is a Dating Violence Protective Order?
A Protective Order is a Court Order that protects victims of >> family violence, >> dating violence, and/or >> sexual assault. A Protective Order may order a person: >> not to commit further acts of violence against you; >> not to harass or threaten you; and/or >> not to go near you, your home, school, or work. To obtain a Protective Order, you must: Be 18 or have an adult apply on your behalf (preferably a family member) AND Go to court and prove that violence has occurred and >> is likely to occur again (family violence/dating violence protective orders); or >> that there is a fear of future harm (sexual assault protective orders). If you think you might need a protective order you can; >> Apply for one yourself at your local County/District Attorney’s Office, >> Hire a private attorney, OR WE CAN HELP YOU.
