What is a “course”?
The Online College offers over 1000 individual online Certificate Courses in business skills, computers, customer service, graphics, networking, programming, and much more. Here are three examples of courses: Adobe Acrobat CS—Fundamentals; Microsoft Word 2003—Fundamentals; and Conflict Resolution.
A course is simply a collection of one or more catalog items. Courses are built on the Compose Screen and are used to simplify the assignment process. They contain topics and items. Topics are used to group items into logical sections. Items are the actual training items you entered on the Catalog Screen.
A course is a form of systematic learning at least one hour in length. One hour is a minimum of 50 minutes. Once the initial 50-minute requirement is met, subsequent time can be counted in one half hour (25 minute) increments. Courses with a total of less than the minimum of 50 minutes will not count. Approved CE courses can be delivered in a variety of modes, including actual class room settings, academic studies, extension studies, conferences, seminars, workshops, distance learning via the Internet, and self-certified self-study courses.
