What is a Contraction Stress Test (CST)?
Contraction Stress Test (CST) evaluates your baby’s heart rate in response to uterine contractions. Three contractions in 10 minutes are brought on by nipple stimulation or oxytocin to mimic labor contractions. • Nipple stimulation. The patient may be asked to gently massage one of her nipples to bring on contractions. • Oxytocin infusion. A normal response indicates adequate oxygen delivery to the baby. An abnormal response may warrant further testing or delivery.
