The Mountaineer Athletic Club is the primary fund-raising arm of WVU Athletics. The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is entirely self-supporting and receives no state funds. This reality creates a significant need for private contributions. The Mountaineer Athletic Club provides a way for individuals to help talented young people receive a quality education from West Virginia University
A club sport is considered less intense in terms of commitment than a varsity sport. Unlike an intramural team, club teams hold regular practices and compete against other colleges and universities. Although it is sponsored by the school and the student-athletes compete under the Boston University Terriers name, they are not fully funded by the university. The Boston University Mens Club Water Polo team competes in the New England Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association. Some of our division opponents are Dartmouth College, Yale University, Boston College, and Middlebury University.
