What is a CLEP exam?
The College-Level Examination Program® or CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. There are 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams. By clicking HERE you may access a list of CLEP exams offered at UAA. Registration Information Each CLEP exam is $70 with a $20 registration fee, for a total of $90. Active military personnel should check on eligibility for fee waivers. The $20 registration fee is paid at the cashier’s window. Please stop by the Advising and Testing center first to pick up a registration card to bring to the cashier. The $70 exam fee is paid on the day of the test. This fee can be paid by credit card, money order, or check made payable to CLEP. Cash payment for the exam fee cannot be accepted. You can start the CLEP exam during any of our Open Testing Lab Hours. For exams without an essay, you will be given unofficial results
The College-Level Examination Program, CLEP for short, are exams that are used to get college level credits by writing a single test. You can think of it as skipping right to the final exam in a college course and having your entire grade based on that test. How The CLEP Exams Work Essentially by taking CLEP exams you can skip classes that you feel you have a good understanding of. Many people enter college and find that the first year courses are similar to what they had learned in the last years of high school. By taking the CLEP exam of a given subject you will be credited as if you had taken the entire course. Do All Colleges Accept CLEP Credits? Unfortunately the answer is no. Almost 3000 colleges accept credits but there are others that do not. On top of this some colleges accept certain credits while not accepting others. The policy for colleges is usually written in their catalog but the best thing to do before writing any CLEP exams is to check with your professors or faculty.
