What if I have immediate family members in the U.S. who are American citizens?
Close relatives in the United States of an Iraqi refugee outside the United States may file an immigrant visa petition on behalf of their refugee relative; the Iraqi relative should encourage his/her U.S. relative to do so. A pending application for immigration does not preclude consideration of an individual for refugee admission.
