Ultrasound technologists are also known by the fancier name of “diagnostic medical sonographers”. The interesting thing about this field – from an educational perspective – is that there are many paths you can take to training in this field. Sonography training is offered by some technical schools, by hospitals themselves, by the military, and by universities and colleges, where you’ll find programs of both 2 and 4-years. (Two year courses are most common.) Some employers require that you have completed an “accredited” sonography program – for the most part, the accredited programs are the university and college programs. (Note that that does not mean that you MUST attend a university program to get a good job, just that SOME employers insist upon it. Others don’t.) What’s the difference?
