What happens if I do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare to pay for Personal Care Home care?
Medicaid and Medicare are the only public programs that help to pay for Personal Care Home care. If an individual meets Personal Care Home care requirements (usually similar to Medicaid and Medicare) guidelines, but either exceeds Medicare length of stay or is ineligible for Medicaid because of assets or income greater than the allowed limit, other payment arrangements must be made, even if the resident’s income is not equal to the actual cost. It may be possible to qualify for Medicaid by “spending down” countable assets. Call the county Department of Family and Children Services for additional information on what’s allowed.
