In addition to the first two answers, consider the complete ecosystem within the forest. By destroying the forest, the environment for many living creatures and organisms is also destroyed. Since we really do not fully know how wildlife in the rain forest effects the environment of the world, the cutting of the rain forest could have a much larger impact on the world as a collective whole than we could imagine. There needs to be a world wide ban on new construction using wood in such vast quantities. There are too many other resources at our disposal that we can use and cease cutting of these forests.
