What does Science of Mind believe about the Bible?

Teachings from the Bible are used regularly in Religious Science services, and Science of Mind classes are often taught on the Bible. Ernest Holmes says, “In many respects, the Christian Bible is the greatest book ever written, and does truly point a way to eternal values. But it is only ONE explanation and cannot be considered the ONLY light on religion, for there are many others whose combined teachings weave the story of Truth into a complete and unified pattern.” (The Science of Mind, pp. 67-8) Dennis Merrit Jones says in How to speak Religious Science: “Do we use [the Bible]? Of course. Do we take it literally? No. “The Bible was written 2,000 to 3,000 years ago, by the Semitic people, for the Semitic people. The Bible is a valuable and valid source of Truth when read and understood according to the authors’ consciousness and heritage. Truth is Truth and the Bible must be read with an open mind, looking for the higher meaning in the stories, metaphors, and parables.
