What Does Redox Mean?

0

Redox is a reaction that comprises all the chemical process in which all the atoms present have their oxidation state (oxidation number) changed. This can be a very simple process of Redox. For example; the oxidation state of a carbon to yield a carbon dioxide could be the reduction of carbon atom by hydrogen to yield Methane, the chemical formula thus becomes CH4. However there is much more complex process like the oxidation of sugar in the body of a human being, this process is a series of very complex process of the Electron Transfer. The term Redox is a mixture of two words; Oxidation and Reduction. Oxidation stands for the loss of an electron to a molecule, atom or an ion. Reduction stands for the gain of an electron by molecule, atom or an ion.
