What does policy of inclusion Mean?
A policy of inclusion refers to a specific world view that not only should everyone be included, but that in order for people to be truly included it means providing everyone the accommodations/welcome they need to be fully present and engaged. It is not simply to put up a sign and say all are welcome. It is providing a ramp so a person using a wheelchair can get in. And that ramp is not hidden away as if it is an embarrassment or provides an entrance that takes you through the entrails of the building. It is making sure Braille documents are offered and that when they are requested no one responds – “are you sure you need them, we’ve never had to do it for anyone else?” It is not complaining during a meeting that the budget is high because they have to have expensive sign language interpreters brought in because just one Deaf person needs them. It is having children with unique characteristics attend your school/college/function and than not allowing them to be bullied or deliberately
