What Does Moloch Mean?
Moloch in Latin is from Greek Molokh, from Hebrew Molek which is of Canaanite origin. Canaanite god was the god of fire to whom the sacrifice was given in the form of children. He was also known as the Assyrian God. He has been attested to as early as the 3d millennium B.C. according to the Hebrew Bible, Solomon who was later Ahaz, introduced the worship of him into Judah. He had a sanctuary, which was situated at Tophet, in the valley of Hinnom S of Jerusalem. Milcom might be identifiable with Molech. Moloch or Molech or Molekh represents Hebrew which is the gods name or the name of a scrupulous kind of sacrifice connected in olden times with Phoenician and correlated traditions in North Africa and the Levant.
