What do military drug tests screen for?
Urine drug testing is done by the U.S. military to ensure that military personnel are not using illegal drugs. The most commonly prosecuted drug crime in the U.S. military is drug abuse.Preliminary ScreeningThe military uses a preliminary screening process. During this process, the urine is tested by an Olympus AU-800 Automated Chemistry Analyzer and discarded if no drugs are found. If a positive specimen is identified, it is retested using the same machine. Gas chromatography is used to identify the type of drug in the positive sample.TestingActive members must undergo a urine drug test annually. Any member can be tested without notice according to military regulations. The military has a zero-tolerance policy for drug abuse.Drug TypesThe drugs included in the screening process are THC (marijuana), cocaine, morphine, codeine, heroin, amphetamines, methamphetamines, ecstasy, barbituates, PCP and LSD.
