What are the most common reasons for failure?
In our experience, we see 25% of problems as mechanical and 75% of issues logical. However, if the issue is logical, the data may still be difficult to recover. Of the 25% of disks we see with mechanical issues, 40% of issues related to “circuit board failures” (due to static electricity or excessive heat), 25% are related to “head crashes” (the component that reads data), and the rest are other assorted issues (platter scarring, motor failures).
