What are the minimum GRE and TOEFL scores required for admission?
The minimum TOEFL score necessary for admission is 600 or 250 depending on whether you take the computerized or written test. In addition, a minimum of 60 or 25 is required on the oral comprehensive section. For the TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT) the minimum total score is 100; 26 on each section except writing which has a minimum of 22. The minimum quantitative GRE score is 730. There are no minima for other sections of the test.
We do not have absolute minimum required scores for either the GRE or the TOEFL. For applicants whose native language is not English, the great majority of those who are admitted have TOEFL scores above 600. Applicants with TOEFL scores of less than 600 but whose other credentials are very strong are occasionally admitted, however. Additional comments about the GRE will be found below.
There are no ‘cut-off’ scores for the GRE examination, which is evaluated in the context of your entire application package. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based); 213 (computer-based); and the IBT is still being evaluated in a case-by-case basis. Note: TOEFL scores are required of international students whose native language is not English and whose undergraduate degree was obtained at a non-English speaking university.
