What are the different types of STIs?
There are three different types of STIs: Bacterial infections are caused by a germ or bacterial. Some bacterial infections include chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Bacterial infections can be cured if a person takes antibiotics prescribed by a health care provider. Viral infections are caused by a virus. HIV, herpes, Hepatitis B and C and the human papillomavirus (HPV) which causes genital warts and abnormal Pap Smears are examples of STIs that are caused by a virus. The symptoms can be treated, but the virus may stay with a person for life because they cannot be cured by medicine. Parasitic infections are tiny bugs or insects that can live in the pubic hair and genital area. These include crabs (pubic lice) or scabies. These can be spread during sexual contact and from sharing bedding, clothing, and bath towels. These infections are usually cured with prescription soap.
