Students admitted to the CWEL program for study at the master’s level are required to satisfy all academic requirements for the degree program to which they are admitted in four years or less. These requirements include credit hours, grades, and field instruction (internship). In addition, there are several specific academic requirements: • At least two child welfare courses • At least one field work assignment (internship) in a child welfare setting • Course content in cultural diversity • Course content in interagency collaboration Normal progress toward completion of the degree as defined by the school is expected. While students may enroll on either a full-time or part-time basis, the number of both full-time and part-time positions is limited. All full-time students are required to enroll for at least one course during the summer between the first and second academic years.

To complete the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree, you are required to : • Earn 125 semester hours; • 24 of the last 48 semester hours must be earned from UNO courses; • 30 hours of must be upper level courses numbered 3000-4000, including nine hours from UNO in your area of concentration; and • Maintain at least a 2.00 grade point average. You can open or download a PDF file with a list of courses that fulfill the core requirements. There are two options for pursuing the BGS degree. OPTION I generally requires a 30-credit area of concentration and two secondary fields of 12 credits each. OPTION II requires three areas of emphasis of 15 credits each. The professional degree is awarded for satisfactory completion of a graduate program at a higher level of course work than is normally completed for the M.S. degree. At least 30 points of credit of graduate work beyond the M.S. degree, or 60 points of graduate work beyond the B.S. degree are required for the professional degree.
