What Are Some Examples of Unhealthy and Healthy Carbs?
Coreen: In today’s mixed advice from popular diets, it’s often unclear what kinds and how (or if) you should include carbohydrates in your diet. It is important to have healthy carbohydrates on a regular basis, and below are some basic principles to follow and carbs to include and carbs to avoid. Healthy carbs are those that are natural and unprocessed (or very minimally processed). Fruits and vegetables are the best carbs, however high fiber grains can also provide important benefits. If you do eat grains, it is best to choose sprouted and whole grains with high fiber that contain little to no added sugar. Some examples include sprouted wheat breads, whole grain or sprouted tortillas, high fiber cereals with no added sugar, brown rice, brown rice pasta, oatmeal, and brown rice cooked cereal.
