What are normal temperatures, etc. for cats and dogs?
Body temperatures should be taken rectally. Dogs’ and cats’ normal body temps range from 100-102.5 degrees. If temps fall below 99 or if they run a fever over 104 degrees, call your vet immediately. Gums should be pink (or look in lower eyelid) when checking for proper circulation and oxygenation. If gums are yellow, pale, white or blue – call your vet. If your pet seems to be breathing more heavily than usual or gulping for air, seek medical attention at once. Be aware that dogs can pant heavily when hot, but this is not always an indicator or respiratory distress.
