What are motor mounts?
A motor mount’s job is simply to hold the engine in the vehicle, while transmitting as little of the engine’s vibration to the chassis as possible. Methods of absorbing vibration vary, and there are times when no absorption is desired at all.HistoryThe first flexible motor mounts were used by military aircraft in 1918, as it was found that the vibrations of their extremely large engines caused fasteners to loosen and the plane to fall apart.Rear-Wheel Drive LocationRear-wheel drive cars usually have a longitudinally mounted engine, and the motor mounts can be found on the bottom left and right sides of the engine block.Front/All-Wheel Drive LocationFront-wheel and all-wheel cars usually have two main motor mounts, one on either side of the car, near the shock absorber mounts.
