What are Grease Traps?
Grease traps are devices placed on kitchen cleaning appliances such as sinks, woks, and any other drains that collect grease. Properly maintained grease traps help prevent unwanted grease build-up from entering a private building’s sewer or municiple waste water system. What are the requirements for my facility? 1) You must have a properly functioning grease trap. 2) Must use a certified licensed grease hauler. 3) Grease and solids must be removed from your trap a minimum of every 90 days. 4) Must retain receipts and records associated with the maintenance of your grease trap for submital to your local waste water disctrict. How much does it cost? While Blue Sky Bio-fuels offers FREE waste oil collection, we do charge for grease trap serice. Our services are priced competitively at $125 up to 35 gallons and $75 for each additional trap at the same location. For larger in ground interceptors please contact us for pricing.
Grease traps have been used since Victorian days. They are used to reduce the amount of fats, oils and greases (FOG’s) that enter the main sewers. Effectively they are boxes within the drain run that flows between the sinks in a kitchen to the foul sewer system. They only have waste water flowing through them and are not served by any other drainage system such as toilets. They can be made from a number of different materials; e.g. Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, Plastics, Concrete, Cast Iron. And range from 40 litres capacity to 45000 litres and above capacity. They can be located above ground, below ground, inside the kitchen or outside the building.
