What are Autoresponders?
All SHWebhosting accounts come with a packge-limited amount of e-mail autoresponders. An autoresponder is a computer program that automatically returns a prewritten message to anyone who submits e-mail to a particular Internet address, whether an individual or a Web site. Autoresponders are widely used by Web sites for the purpose of responding to visitor comments and suggestions in a preliminary way and, in cases where traffic is heavy, as the sole way to communicate with user inquiries. They can also be used by businesses when an employee or department goes on vacation or a temporary leave of absence.
Autoresponders can be useful. They automatically send a preset email response to anyone sending mail to your address. You could use an autoresponder to send company information to prospects or to let people know when you’re on vacation. Autoresponders are included as an option on all email accounts, but we recommend using them with caution as these days we’ve found that email addresses with autoresponders tend to attract more spam than those without them.
Autoresponders reply to an incoming e-mail automatically. An autoresponder could be used to send a standard pre written text e-mail to persons requesting information, or confirming receipt of a request, etc. If you have ever received a response to an e-mail which suggests that the recipient is away from the office, you have received an automated response.
You can set email autoresponders on existing POP accounts. Autoresponders can automatically reply to messages while you are absent or if you have a standard response for your clients (e.g. “Thankyou for your message and we will reply soon” etc). These can be configured through the members area under the Mail section.
