Truly new widgets can usually be said to extend some previous type of widget. It’s fairly rare that a new widget has developed a completely new concept. However, sometimes there may be a type of widget that is just not yet addressed in ARIA 1.0 at all, such as interactive diagrams (this is slated to be dealt with in ARIA 2.0). Making radically new widgets accessible is not yet addressed by ARIA 1.0.
