What are ABCs main aims ?
The Committee’s agreed verison of ABC’s Aims and Objectives are presented in full on the web site. ABC believes that the historic (or traditional) Counties of Britain are an important part of the history, culture and geography of the nation and that their identities deserve to be preserved and enhanced on that basis. In general, we aim to pursue policies which will assist in this preservation and enhancement. Our main aims include: (A) to promote the re-establishment of the historic Counties as the standard geographical framework of Britain ABC is particularly keen to see the historic Counties shown on Ordnance Survey maps and used as the geographical reference frame by the publishers of Road Atlases, Guide Books, Gazetteers and so on. We also wish to see their borders marked by road signs of a standard, easily understood design. Of course, we also wish for the traditional Counties to be consistently used by the media as a basis for descriptions of geographical location. To facilitate
