What action is Blue Shield taking that is different from what the federal government is doing?
We are allowing currently covered individuals up to age 26 to remain on their parents’ individual health insurance policies starting June 1, 2010 – well before this provision in the new federal law takes effect starting on September 23, 2010. If you are an adult child under the age of 26 who is currently a dependent on your parents’ Blue Shield of California health plan, you should know that we are taking steps that will prevent you from losing your coverage between now and when the federal mandate begins.
