Communism ruled for 74 years in Russia and during that time Joseph Stalin killed off any opposition to his rule, and this included a big number of the officer corps. Those who were party members became rich and the ordinary worker was kept in his place. The KGB made sure that any opposition against the party was quickly dealt with.As we know the Russians ploughed most of their taxes into the arms race, and it was something they could ill afford to do.The people suffered because the communist farms could not produce enough to feed the population. This led to food queue’s outside supermarkets. The communist elite had their own supermarkets that were filled with western goods.I think that communism failed because instead of helping the ordinary citizen the leaders helped themselves.
